LOVE LEGENDS: CHERIE SUMNER WRITES, Picking Petals Off A Flower

Picking Petals Off A Flower

(He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not)

She sat alone by the creek
On a spring day, warm and mild
Picking petals off a flower
Just like a curious child
Playing the game, saying,
“He loves me, he loves me not”
Each pulled off petal brought her closer
To the answer she sought
But when the flower was half bare,
She stopped plucking, painfully aware
She was unable to continue the game
Petals strewn everywhere
Her mind baffled about why she relied
On a flower’s prediction
Of whether her lover really cared
A worrisome depiction
With further concern, she reconsidered,
Second guessing
Whether she knew true love at all
Even with him confessing
For why was she picking petals for answers?
Such insecurity!
Just by inquiring gave the answer –
His love was not meant to be
She let go of the blighted rose
Let it float downstream in the creek
Her mercurial mind, with fraught revelation,
Rendered her weak
She realized the implication in -
He loves me, he loves me not
A silly game that gave her more insight
Than she ever thought

LOVE LEGENDS: CHERIE SUMNER WRITES, River of Novocain

River of Novocain

___________________________________

He said it was the hardest thing
He has ever had to do
I replay his words in my mind
The devastation running through
I know this rare, sacred kind of love
Should not be broken off like this
When my heart aches in the middle of the night
There is no recompense
Our love is strong, our love is pure
Despite intervening harsh afflictions
Since the day we met, I harbor no regrets
I stand firm in my convictions
Wandering lost without his reaffirming touch
A river of Novocain could never ease my pain
Panic sets in when I even conceive
I may never see him again
In moonlight’s serenade, a vision displays
Of a boat in remote distance
I imagine him, sailing in
Calling to me with great persistence
His health improved, all obstacles removed
Hope glistening on the river
A reconciling embrace awaits him
With all the passion I can deliver
Until then, it is hard to comprehend
The tearful predicament where we remain
Waiting for a miracle to sail right in
Upon pain’s river of Novocain
